It was lights, camera, action at this year’s IPAA International Women’s Day Gala Dinner on Thursday 7 March.
The gala event, held by the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA), is one of the major events in the public purpose sector calendar. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support, network and celebrate women who are redefining the parameters of public purpose leadership.
We were delighted to be part of it – now let’s look at our role on the night.
The brief
The Gala Dinner was a one-night event held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne. Our task was to film the evening, which included recording footage and audio of all presentations on stage, along with capturing video for a highlight reel.
Photography was also included, and was to capture all aspects of the event including room set-up, arrivals, branding, stage presentations, networking and entertainment.
Capturing highlights
While we had a fixed camera set up at the back of the room to record the stage presentations in full, we also needed more dynamic shots of the night, plus vox pops (on-the-spot interviews), to create an engaging and vibrant highlight reel.
Our camera operator utilised a second camera on a gimbal (a pivoted support that allows the camera to rotate on an axis), so he could film highlights from all angles, getting that quality content we needed to put together a polished video later on.
The results
We delivered one 90-second hype reel and a 30-second edit, plus the recordings of the stage presentations.
The photography was professionally edited, with key shots provided by 10am the next business day, and remaining images sent two to three business days later.
We know how vital it is to have the content needed to continue an event’s impact long after it’s finished, and it was a pleasure to help the IPAA achieve this with our videography and photography.
